Ufuk Korcan: fund outflows as decisive as inflation
Dünya columnist Ufuk Korcan wrote on 5 October that markets are entering the new week with two agenda items: September inflation and the selling pressure created by the funds investigation. He noted that the BIST 100 fell 4.9 per cent last week and 7 per cent over September as a whole. In his assessment, September inflation will be an important indicator ahead of the Central Bank’s interest rate decision on 22 October, and developments in services, food and core inflation could influence market expectations about the size of a rate cut. Korcan linked the positive effect of rate-cut expectations on the stock market to the funds’ liquidity conditions, saying fewer liquidation-driven sales and an end to outflows are among the factors to watch for the strength of any recovery.
